Inkjet or Laser?

So whats the difference between Inkjet and Laser waterslide decals. There are pros and cons to both. Below is a quick rundown of each printing method.

Inkjet
Pros
- Vibrant colours
- Sharper detail
Cons
- No white print or underprint to make them show on darker coloured backgrounds
- Cannot cut through a design as this will bleed the print (i.e textured wraps you cannot cut a small piece out of a sheet without it distorting in water
- A layer of lacquer needs to be applied before soaking in water. All our decals come pre lacquered but you may wish to add an extra layer

Laser
Pros
- No need to pre-lacquer, simply cut and use
- Can have white print
- Can have white underprint to show up design on darker backgrounds
- Can cut through a design without any bleed
Cons
- Not as vibrant and tones can appear muted
- Harder to colour match
- Higher costs

Ultimately then is if you want any white print or to have a design show up on darker backgrounds then laser decals are the preffered option. If its to show on a lighter background then inkjet for its vibrancy and detail is the one to go for.

In any decision we always recomend that once the decal is apllied, and at east 24 hours of drying time has passed, to then lacquer the model to seal in the decal. This helps the decal to not become brittle and detach over time and to give it a seamless finish between the model and decal.
